I was thinking this evening about color imaging units. They can really take a bite out of your cost per print when they go bad! In addition to being expensive, they are also one more thing that needs to be recycled. There are a couple simple tips you can do to help your imaging unit last longer…no matter the size or age of your printer. Here they are:
1. Don’t place your color laser printer near an outside door. Humidity from outside elements can drastically reduce the life of your imaging unit. This means any humidity near your printing device can end up costing you the $200 (per color!) for your imaging unit!
2. Don’t buy printers that are 1/4 the speed in color as they are in B&W. This indicates that each print is going through all four imaging units in your printer (that much more use on all of them). It will end up cost you much more than a comparable printer, and it will probably be cheaper to replace the printer (if it’s a small to mid-sized machine) than to replace all four imaging units.
3. Run longer jobs whenever possible. Instead of printing 1 page 10 times, print 10 pages 1 time. Imaging unit life is usually based on industry average of 3 pages per printing. By printing more pages per printing time, you will be rotating the imaging unit less (it has to recalibrate after). This will cut down the wear on your imaging unit and give you that many more pages!
By increasing the life of your printer’s imaging unit, you are saving money, reducing waste, and being smart! Give us a call for printing tips and printing analysis.
