Toner Sales reps are notorious for being unsavory sales reps.  They call and trick and there are so many of them, it’s hard to avoid getting scammed a few times!  So, since we want to earn your toner business, not steal your money, we decided to put together the most common scam methods for toner sales. Call in and ask — Do you still have a _______  Copier?  Oh, you don’t?  What is it now?  Well, we were asked to send toner because we have this special deal on that cartridge.  Can you tell me where you want it sent?  (getting compliance) We are down to our last __ toner cartridges for your (when they know what you have from previous calls)…  So you don’t run out, we will send them out today. Can we send you a free toner cartridge?  Great!  Then you start getting bills for the toner. Crippled Toner Budgets in Denver

Is your company telling you that you need to save money on your supplies purchases here in Denver, Co?  We are all feeling the pinch and all of our budgets are a little crippled lately.  What can you do? One of the first things a company will do is to try and find cheaper toner.  The problem is this is not always a good idea. When is it a bad idea to get cheaper toner in Denver?  The main circumstance is when you sacrifice a good manufactured print cartridge for a cartridge with little or no quality control.  We all understand we generally get what we pay for, and it’s not a lot different with toner cartridges in Denver. A cheap remanufacturer will basically “drill and fill” cartridges.  The outlets normally have the cheapest toner, but it is often toner that will damage the printer.  The HP 9000 Series and the HP 5550 are the most known “quality control” print cartridges in the market. If you have been given the task of reducing costs, the only answer is not making sure the people who sell you toner here in Denver can’t make anything.  You could check on placements, allocated resources, workflow, etc…  Sometimes [...] read more

Don't Get Soaked by Toner Costs in Denver!

There is a lot of margin when it comes to selling toner in Denver.   From online bargain stores (it’s always wise to check their customer satisfaction ratings before ordering), to Denver copier supply companies, to the Staples and Office Depot sized stores, prices vary WILDLY!   This is due to a combination of things.   However, the greatest factor is that toner manufacturers have very different qualities of product.   The quality of parts and ingredients varies from the very best toner for the machine (e.g., OEM toner from HP, Lexmark, Cannon, and Xerox) to the very cheapest drill and fill operations. Generally, the best value falls on the virgin remanufactured toner cartridges (OEM toner cartridges that have been taken apart and, while keeping the same exterior, have had their drum and wiper blade replaced).   This, in combination with high-quality toner, gives you very close to the OEM print quality.   The low end of the toner market are simply re-used cartridges with varying qualities of toner poured in them.   They are a risk, and if you don’t have a rock-solid warranty, getting your money back on them (or paying for your equipment if they leak!) is very difficult. The very best thing to [...] read more

Don't Let Toner Costs Stretch Your Bottom Line!

There are a lot of pressures to save money in Denver right now.   A lot of employers are looking at every cost and evaluating its necessity.   I was working with a large group last week and looking at their printing fleet.   They had three HP color printers on one floor, and all used HP brand toner cartridges.    I did a little quick math after asking about their print volume, and it worked out to nearly $1,700 a year they were over-paying on toner (compared to high-quality, warrantied toner).   That’s just for one floor of a large Denver office building.   Now, for organizations that negotiate suppliers down on every price point just to save an extra hundred dollars a year, toner and consumables should be WAY up on the list for their bottom line consideration! A lot of extra money is wasted each year here in Denver on over-priced toner, poorly suited laser printers (to the application they’re being used for), and mismanaged printing.  If you’re a business owner or office manager, take a close look at how much you’re actually spending per print in your office.   If you’re printing in color, the real costs will probably be shocking (see one [...] read more

Coverage and Your Costs: Don't Squeeze Your Budget

Color toner costs can be painful to your already tight budget.   One way to cut down on your costs is buy looking at how much color you’re putting on your pages.   Like I’ve mentioned before, coverage is something many people fail to fully understand.   The industry standard is 20%.   That may sound like quite a bit, when actually, it’s just a fraction of the color most “color” prints have. The 20% is not 20% Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black.   It is a combined total of all four (5% of each color).   This means the 12,000 prints on your HP Magenta toner cartridge is really 12,000 pages at 5% Magenta coverage.   Customers often wonder why a large color cartridge ran out after 5,000 pages…the answer lies with their actual coverage. If your color printer is squeezing your budget due to high toner costs, you may be better off recycling it and buying a more efficient printer.   Another option is to switch to high-quality compatible color toner.   If you need perfect color impressions for your prints, OEM toner is probably better for your needs.   Compatible toner can be very close in quality, so if you’re a church, non-profit, or small business, cost [...] read more
